FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM Concerned Brifor Youth of Ghana Lassia Tuolu & Allied Communities Upper West Region

CONCERNED BRIFOR YOUTH OF GHANA Lassia Tuolu & Allied Communities Wa West District – Upper West Region

JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED: A NATION MUST NOT WATCH WHILE LAWLESSNESS THRIVES

We, the Concerned Brifor Youth of Ghana, speak today not out of emotion, but out of deep frustration, righteous anger, and an unshakable demand for justice. What is unfolding in the Wa West District is not an isolated dispute. It is a dangerous pattern of violence, institutional silence, prosecutorial compromise, and a looming collapse of public confidence in the justice system. In June 2024, a communal dispute between Lassia-Tuolu and Kandeu claimed three lives and the matter was referred to thetraditional and regional authorities for mediation. We respected the process and while the process was ongoing, in October 2025, Lassia-Tuolu was attacked again β€” resulting in another Brifor indigene losing his life.

On 23rd November 2025, two innocent Brifor brothers of ours going to Wechiau market: Mr. Gaa Kwame John and Mr. Dari Dondomo Moses were kidnapped and brutally murdered at Kandeu in broad day. The issue was reported at the Wa West District Police Headquarters, arrest was made and until now the police have compromise their work and as we speak to you, the police have failed woefully to retrieve their bodies to the families for the necessary traditional rites.

Following that at a mediation meeting at the Regional Coordinating Council, the State Attorney confirmed the following:

Β· Ten suspects were arrested.

Β· Nine were granted bail.

Β· One remains in custody and has confessed that he, together with accomplices currently on the run, jointly murdered the two (Mr. Gaa Kwame John and Mr. Dari Dondomo Moses).

A confession exists. Names are known. Accomplices are identified, yet they walk free. If the Police indeed mean business what is preventing them from arresting those aaccomplices who are currently in Kandeu community as we speak to you. We call on the Inspector General of Police to find out from his men in Wechiau and Wa what is preventing them in making the needed arrest in a highly profile case like this.

At a court sitting on 16th February 2026 in Wa, the case was transferred to the High Court suggesting investigations are complete β€” while confessed accomplices remain at large. Also, we are told at the next court day on the 16th March, 2026 comes judgement.

How can investigations be completed when murder suspects are still roaming free? Even more disturbing is the revelation that legal representation for the accused persons is being provided by lawyer from the Regional Minister’s law firm, the Lawyer is also the biological younger brother of the State Attorney assigned to this same case. This troubling web of professional and familial relationships creates a glaring appearance of conflict of interest and casts serious doubt on the integrity, neutrality, and transparency of the prosecution process.

Justice must not be reduced to a family affair. Justice must not be negotiated behind closed doors. Justice must not be manipulated through influence.

A GROWING PATTERN OF INTIMIDATING

Brifor citizens from Pori in the Savannah Region were arrested by youth in Wechiau merely for observing cultural rites in Burkina Faso and were returning home peacefully.

A Brifor resident in Wechiau by name Mr. Garigu, who lawfully acquired land and lived peacefully with his family in Wechiau, has reportedly been banished under circumstances that raise serious constitutional and human rights concerns.

Meanwhile, the remains of our murdered brothers have not been recovered. Families are denied closure. Mothers are denied burial rites. Tradition is denied dignity. And yet Wechiau continues to function as the District Capital, hosting critical state institutions, while Brifors increasingly feel unsafe within the same jurisdiction meant to protect them.

We demand, without apology and without fear:

1. The immediate arrest of all suspects identified in the murder confession.

2. An independent review of the prosecutorial process to address the apparent conflict of interest.

3. A fair, impartial, and transparent trial free from political, familial, or professional interference.

4. Recall of Mr. Garigu back to Wechiau because it is only court order that can bane an individual from a town or village.

5. The urgent recovery of the remains of Mr. Gaa Kwame John and Mr. Dari Dondomo Moses. 6. Enhanced and visible security protection for Brifor communities.

7. An urgent national security assessment of the Wa West District and serious consideration of relocating the District Capital and key public institutions to safer communities such as Poyentanga, Vieri, or Dorimon.

8. The Ghana Police should wake up and work professional without been intimidated by the Upper West RegionalMinister, State Attorney of Wa, the Paramount Chief of Wechiau and Wa. IGP Please your have not provided justice.

9. Immediate removal of the Upper West Regional Minister from office.

10. Wa West Member of Parliament stop secrete meetings with the Chives of Wa West, where you are using your office to block justice. It is alleged in one of the meetings you indicated that the Brifors easily forget of issues and if you and the Chiefs work harder to delay the process, the matter would die a natural

11. We will go all length to ensure we get what we want else we resort other means best known to us.

ONE-WEEK ULTIMATUM We are issuing a one-week ultimatum starting this very day of our release to the appropriate state authorities to ensure the recovery of the bodies of our murdered brothers and demonstrate concrete action toward arresting all accomplicesso that justice can be served well.If after one week there is no visible, measurable action toward recovering the remains of our brothers, we will interpret the silence as abandonment of duty and we shall mobilize to search for our brothers’ bodies. Let it be clearly understoodand let it be clear if anything happens let no one blames us but the unfair justice system in Upper West Region: the Brifor youth will not sit idle indefinitely while justice is delayed and denied, evidence disappears, and murderers walk freely. We do not seek chaos. We do not seek violence. But we will not accept injustice. The Constitution of the Republic of Ghana does not give any youth group, traditional authority, or private individual the power to intimidate, banish, or terrorize indigenes. Neither does it permit state institutions to look onwhile citizens are killed and banned illegally. Justice must not only be done β€” it must be seen to be done, without fear, favour, compromise, or family influence. The happenings in Wa West has made Wa West District a time bomb if not checked can explode at anytime. The credibility of our justice system is on trial. The nation is watching.

Signed,

Concerned Brifor Youth of Ghana Lassia Tuolu & Allied Communities Upper West Region
